Our mission

Montana Repertory Theatre stands at the cross-section of educational and professional theatre, producing work that celebrates, engages and challenges the people of Missoula and the state of Montana.

Our beliefs

  • We believe the needs of our staff and the artists we hire should be centered in everything we do.

  • We believe that cost should never be a barrier to art.

  • We believe everyone who works for us should be compensated fairly.

  • We believe every member of our community deserves to see themselves and their stories represented on our stages.

  • We believe that providing educational opportunities is integral to our work.

  • We believe that we are a part of a larger local and regional eco-system of artists and artistic companies that can only survive and thrive together.

  • We believe in a community-focused theatre – by, for, about, and with the people who live here.

  • We believe that the new works we commission should be supported all the way to full production.

  • We believe that our systems and our biases should be constantly examined and challenged to ensure the good of everyone, to correct the wrongs of our past, and actively fight against injustice now and in the future.

indigenous land acknowledgement

Montana Repertory Theatre acknowledges that we are in the aboriginal territories of the Salish and Kalispel people. We also acknowledge the privilege of gathering on this land to share stories. We pledge to always hold a place on our stages for the stories of this land and of its first peoples.

Our vision

Montana Repertory Theatre will be recognized as one of the leading arts organizations in Montana and will be known for its commitment to creativity, resourcefulness, innovation and superior storytelling.

We will achieve this vision by:

  • Working with talented people to tell great stories.

  • Facilitating partnerships between students and professionals to inspire and equip the next generation of theatre artists.

  • Telling the stories of all Montanans, including its indigenous peoples, responsibly and respectfully.

  • Embracing risk and failure as natural parts of the creative process.

  • Engaging our audiences at all stages of those processes, not just with the final product.
